30th Derby Triathlon
DERBY TRIATHLON is aimed at all levels of fitness and ability, whether it’s your first triathlon or you are the next Olympic hopeful. Last year we had an increase in first time competitors, with 55% of the field being new to the great fun sport of triathlon.
You can enter as an individual and complete all three disciplines on your own, the relay event with friends or colleagues and enjoy the race as a team or the corporate event where each team member completes the full triathlon.
Sunday 19th September 2021
Etwall Leisure Centre
Derby. DE65 6HZ
Individual BTF member = £41
Individual non BTF member = £46
Relay = £66 (reduction of £5 per person if BTF membership exists)
Junior (15-19) BTF = £20.50
Junior (15-19) Non-BTF = £25.50
There will be a significant amount of racking race numbered with athletes racking in your designated area. There will be a separate bag drop area and athletes will not be allowed to enter Transition without first registering and having their cycle & helmet checked by the PMA crew.
The swim will take place in Etwall Leisure centre, which is a modern 6 lane 25M swimming pool. Each swimmer will be set off according to estimated swim times on a time trial basis. Swimmers will start in the water in the shallow end and exit out of the fire exit and run to the back field where the Transition area is located.
Bike Course (18K)
After leaving transition you will exit the Leisure centre from the overflow car park and turn left onto Main Road through the village of Etwall and then take the 2nd exit over the large Island (Seven Wells pub) onto Heage Lane (note that this island is also used towards the end of the course so don’t follow other cyclists onto the Etwall bypass). Once onto Heage Lane you will be cycling onto quiet country lane through the villages of Sutton on the Hill and to Hilton. At Hilton turn left onto the main A5132, which continues over some large islands and then onto the Etwall bypass. At the Seven Wells island take the 4th exit and retrace your steps back along the Etwall bypass and exit back onto Main Street into Etwall before turning back into the Leisure centre.
Run Course (5K)
The 5K out and back run course will head out over the back of the school fields (beware of the steep bank!) and then onto the road for a short section through Etwall before turning off onto Sutton Lane and onto the disused railway path, which is the flat and fast section before retracing your steps. There is a feedstation at 1K & 4K to ensure you are fully hydrated.
Individual results will be sent by SMS text message and a full set of results will be provided on the PMA website later that evening.
1st 3 overall (Men & Women)

There will be catering provided throughout the event serving hot food & drinks.
There will be Massage services provided for either a pre or post race treatment.
Individual & Relay
The individual triathlon
This is open to anyone over the age of 15 (on 31/12/21). You must complete all three disciplines with no outside assistance. Your time will be taken from when you start the swim to when you finish the run.
The relay triathlon
Each member of the team completes one discipline.
The first member swims 400m and runs out to tag the cyclist who then continues on the 18k bike, on their return the cyclist tags the runner who goes on to complete the 5k run to finish the event.
Information for beginners
Last year over 50% of the field had never completed a triathlon. All you need is a swimming costume or trunks, goggles (not compulsory), a bike (road or mountain bike as long as it is in roadworthy condition),an approved cycle helmet (compulsory) and a pair of trainers.
So go on give it a tri? You will be given full instructions before the event and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us. In the meantime check out further information here.
Your start time will be determined by the swim time on your entry form. Please be as accurate as possible so that you will be swimming with people of similar ability with faster competitors setting off later in the day.
The event will be held under the rules of the British Triathlon Federation. As always, your bicycle must be in roadworthy condition and an approved cycle helmet must be worn. A BTF referee will be present throughout the day.
Race information and competitor start times will be available on the website 1 week before the event. Any queries relating to the event please contact us.
